Carlos Masis

Born in Rivas Nicaragua, on April 1969, I was raised by physician grandfather, who had asked me to follow in his path of medicine. I always thought the only way that I could, would be as a plastic surgeon. The only way to combine art skills with a career, but art had always pulled me on a straight direction.
I started drawing at age 4 and painting at 6. At age 12, I was send to New Orleans for political issues, where I continued with my studies and painting. At 16 I started selling my artwork. I then moved to Florida where I began my education in drawing and painting. During my 1st visit to Florida, I attended classes at Miami Dade College and later onto the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, where my courses took me to into color coordination at the end of 1988.

In the early 90's I went back home, where I was educated in Psychology of Color, Shape and Art, by Professor Juan Ulloa. While painting in Nicaragua, I shared a studio with artists; Eloy Ramirez and A. March. But in May of 2000, I returned to Florida. To finish my studies in Graphic Design in the Art Institute, where I did special studies of Concept development, Subject I continue to research as a main tool for accuracy in the expression of my artwork.
Since my childhood I have been an untiring sketcher. My mother always said, "He likes to draw and paint, It seems he will be an artist", I would start drawing on any piece of paper I could get my hands on and begin all types of drawings. I was nine years old when I started using oils. My first attempts were toward realism. With effort I achieved personal satisfaction, but, something was missing.

I perceived that reality has robbed the fantasy; I wanted to show my own fantasy. The realism clarifies, but the surreal fascinates. Exist in every artist a different way to process a technique. I personally will stick to my own. Even with such elaborated process, of several phases, the effort of my achievement results in a new offer of creativity, reflecting strong desires of individualism. It is important to be honest with others, but more to be with ourselves. The frequency in which I vibrate is my reality. When anyone buys a piece of my art, it is like buying a piece of my world. All my subjects are real scenes of my: love life, my lost love, my weakness, my desires or an accurate reflection of my personal points of view. Painting is shown like a mission in my life, but in order to achieve it I must transmit an emotional notion, full of general knowledge & true facts. Painting it's oxygen, the only way of showing with colors what I feel inside; a vision of my soul, when magic is spilling from god. This is the only career with no guides in thoughts. There are many roads, but one way to take. Choosing the rough way, helped me to discover what I'm capable of. Developing a formula with my concept to create in art: MY OWN LANGUAGE, and painting to be MY WAY OF SELF EXPRESION.

God, Thank you for guiding my life through such beautiful career; where I feel you bless my hands, my work, my heart and my spirit.
